In 1993, the New Mexico Legislature appropriated money to fund steps one and two of what was then envisioned as a six-step cultural resources documentary project. Steps one and two were to be a paper directory and an "infobase" of cultural information. The New Mexico's Cultural Treasures database is one result of that authorization. It was produced under the auspices of the Office of Statewide Programs and Education of the Museum of New Mexico. In addition to this amazing web site, a reference book containing the data collected for the project has also been published.

This site is an invaluable reference tool for anyone interested in discovering, exploring and enjoying our state's cultural treasures. It serves as a guide to cultural sites and collections throughout New Mexico. The term, "cultural sites," refers to museums, state and national parks, zoological parks, historical societies, public archives, libraries and other publicly accessible collections around the state. Excellent site. Great information. And it's all FREE! Steppin' Out gives New Mexico's Cultural Treasures 4 Ojos!
