During April, the Tome Art Gallery is once again hosting it's annual Santero Art Show. This show features some of the leading Santero artists from the area.
The art of santero has existed for nearly 400 years in the Hispanic culture of New Mexico, New Mexico, Cuba and Spain. These works of art are deeply connected with and have special meaning for the Catholics in the area. In a recent article, Carmella Padilla, vice president of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society described the Santeros art form this way:"From village churches to private chapels to the sacred moradas of the Penitente Brotherhood, the works of individual santeros have provided generations of New Mexicans with inspiring symbols of a shared identity and faith, and a collective hope for the future."
An opening reception was held on April 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The show runs every day (except Easter Sunday) from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM through April 23rd It includes demonstrations of the traditional arts on weekends.

The Tome Art Gallery distributed free bottled water donated by Walmart in Belen on Good Friday (April 14th) during the annual Tome Hill Pilgramage.

May Jewelry Exhibition at Tome Gallery
The Tome Art Gallery is holding a multi-faceted jewelry show featuring Gallery artists and invited jewelers. Work will range from the silver work of Vern Deas to the bottle cap earrings of Pati Woodard together with the work of numerous other artists.
An opening reception will be held on May 5th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This special show will be open every day from 11:00 to 5:00 PM through May 14th. Jewelry making demonstrations are planned on weekends during the show.
