Ruidoso, NM: Never let it be said the remarkable arts community down in Ruidoso doesn't know how to plan ahead. It's the first week of May when we're writing this article... but on <img src="http://steppinoutnewmexico.com/images/ruidosoartfestival_1159_3.jpg" align=left hspace=5 vspace=3 border=2> May 2nd we received a ready-to run display ad and the first public press packet about the upcoming Ruidoso Art Festival which is scheduled for -- believe it or not -- the last weekend in JULY.
Holy cow, that's 90 whole days of advance planning and notice! And the truth is Ruisdoso first contacted us about their upcoming event weeks ago. Needless to say, we're very impressed and already can't wait to attend the 35th Annual Ruidoso Arts Festival. We're betting it will be one amazing arts event.
Here at Steppin Out, we live in a world where everything is sort of rush-rush and last minute. In our universe most arts communities are resource strapped and hard pressed to get a press packet to us weeks before their event -- let alone months early! Other art communities around the state could take lessons from Ruidoso. Those folks really have their act together.
As well they should... They've been doing this for a long time now.
First held in 1971 as an outdoor “tent” art show, the Ruidoso Art Festival has evolved into an annual event which attracts thousands and is consistently listed as one of the top Juried Fine Art shows in the United States.

Now an indoor event held at the Ruidoso Convention Center, artists will arrive from several states to display a dazzling array of paintings, drawings, sculpture, jewelry, weaving, photography glass, pottery, wood and metalwork, as well as dynamic mixed media pieces.
Sponsored by the Ruidoso Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Art Festival also features a Silent Auction to benefit the Chamber’s Special Project Fund which includes scholarships for outstanding area students. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children under 16 and discounts are available for two and three days passes.
Art lovers, from the serious collector to the first-time buyer, will be sure to discover treasures to complement any lifestyle or budget at the 35th Annual Ruidoso Art Festival.
