For several years now the town of Carrizozo has been struggling to establish a reputation as a quality destination for artists, artisans, and art lovers around the state. We're pleased to say they've made dramatic progress in that direction over the past year since the opening of Gallery 408 and its artist studios which are aptly-named Studios on 12th street. Suddenly Carrizozo has started to appear on every art lover's travel agenda as a place where great things are happening in New Mexico's arts community.

The truth is Gallery 408's owners Warren and Joan Malkerson along with their gallery manager Louise Goethe and others have been pouring their hearts and souls into strengthening, supporting and expanding one of the states fastest growing arts enclaves. Gallery 408 comes complete with a unique and beautiful Sculpture Garden filled with beautiful metal sculptures and a contemporary art gallery that specializes in featuring the works of local artists and others from throughout Lincoln County.

To those enviable assets, you can also add monthly concerts in the Sculpture Garden and their 19th century restored building filled with contemporary art. Plus they also offer an Artist in Residence program and they are in the process of restoring a huge warehouse building nearby where they plan to feature even more art. Like we said, lots of great things are happening in Carrizozo and Gallery 408 plays a big part in that.
