Life zipping by too fast for you? Knock the dust off that low tech, fuel efficient, health conscious, yet somehow endlessly fun mountain bike in your garage and join the fun at the 15th annual Socorro Fat Tire Fiesta (http://www.socorro.com/fattire/fiesta.html). Spinning through town the weekend of September 8-10, 2006, this long standing event offers a weekend full of guided rides and fun bike-related (http://www.socorro.com/fattire/rides.html) (and not-so-bike related (http://www.socorro.com/fattire/other.html)) activities.

If you are looking for a casual spin, you’ll have an opportunity to meander through the Bosque Del Apache (http://southwest.fws.gov/refuges/newmex/bosque) and Sevilleta (http://southwest.fws.gov/refuges/newmex/sevilleta) National Wildlife Refuges on glorious fall days—where the only calls you’ll hear are those of nature, rather than ringing phones. Or, if culture is more your speed, you can expand your mind with art and history tours, and expand your senses with the unique Ghost Tour!

Riders looking for more of a challenge will not be disappointed, either. Intermediate and advanced riders can find adventure with an edge-of-town visit to the only naturally-occurring Socorro Isopods (http://www.fws.gov/Endangered/esb/2002/03-06/32-33.pdf) left on Earth, mine the old trails in the hills east of town, or get vertical with the trees in the beautiful Magdalena Mountains (http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/cibola/districts/magdalena.shtml).

Prefer to ride under the stars instead of the Sun? The Fiesta is being held over a full moon this year, and we are offering two night rides to take advantage of the moonlight. Strap on your trail-finding beams, and see Socorro in a truly unique light.

There’s even plenty to do when not riding! Cleverly planned on the same weekend as the 4th annual Socorro Fest (http://www.socorrofest.com/), the historic Socorro Plaza (http://www.socorro.com/fattire/place000.html) will be alive with music, food, spirits, and art all through that lazy afternoon separating your morning mosey from your evening epic. Add to that the ever-popular trials arena and stupid bike tricks, and you’ll be wondering how to fit it all in!
