Religious Work by Virginia Clark
Traditional New Mexico art will be featured in a three-person show at the Tomé Gallery from Aug. 4th - 13th. The artists will host an opening reception from 6-8 pm on Friday August 4th at the Tome’ Gallery. The show will continue every day from 11 am to 5 pm at the gallery.
Featured artists include Jim Vaughn, a tin punch artist who uses his skills and talents to create mirrors and crosses. Virginia Casados Clark creates many types of religious themed works using painted boards and small pieces of straw in an appliqué technique. This very traditional style of work ranges from small crosses to pictures of saints. The intricacy of the designs can be best appreciated viewed up close. Joan Prokopiak will be featuring her raku pottery. Though this is not a traditional New Mexico art form, raku is an ancient pottery glazing and firing technique. Joan often decorates her work with pines needles, beads and other adornments. The results are a beautiful highly decorative piece of art.
