Ronda and Randy Dougherty

One of the most interesting stops on our Art Loop tour was our visit to the Earthly Greens Gallery and Ran La Roca Glass in Lincoln, NM. Part of the business at this location is the fused glass art Studio of Ronda and Randy Dougherty. The gallery is quite filled with fused and melted glass objects of just about every kind and description. Frankly, their fused glass work is quite beautiful and impressive to see and getting a chance to tour their glass fusing studio was a fascinating way to spend a half-hour of our limited time as well.
In various stages of production while we were there were wrought-iron tables that were being individually covered in a colorful mosaic of fused glass pieces, fused glass “angels”, sheets of fused glass destined for another undefined project, and even fused glass fish – or at least the heads and “skeletons” of glass fish which looked for all the world like the family cat had eaten the rest of the fish while someone was out of the room. Ronda and Randy also create beautiful fused glass bowls and dishes in their ovens/kilns along with a number of “pure art” specialty glass items too.
In addition to working with Randy on various collaborative glass projects and undertaking glass projects of her own, Ronda, also manages to find time to paint abstracts in acrylics and she creates a variety of amusing mixed-media pieces as well. How she finds time or the energy to be creative in so many directions at once plus manage the Art Gallery too, we're not really sure. She is certainly one very creative and busy lady. We enjoyed viewing and studying several examples of this multi-talented artist's other artistic works during our visit and have included photos of three of her creations in their gallery here for your viewing enjoyment.
We were very impressed with both the beauty and quality of the art items we saw in their studio and gallery and weren’t surprised to learn that may other visitors to Earthly Greens Gallery are apparently impressed as well. Indeed during our conversation with Ronda, we learned they close the gallery in the winter each year because it takes months for them to “catch up” with all the orders for custom glass work they’ve taken during the spring, summer and fall tourist seasons. Frankly, that really wasn’t a surprise to us. One visit to this unique place would surely be enough to convince many visitors they’d really like to own one or more of Ran La Roca’s beautiful fused glass creations. The tables and other glass items are quite lovely, completely unique, long lasting and definitely the sort of heirloom possession one could pass along to their children and grandchildren with pride.
Looking back on the weekend afterwards, we realized that among all the studio and gallery locations we visited in Lincoln County that weekend, Earthly Greens was one of our favorite stops. So, if you’re headed to Lincoln or passing through there any time before winter sets in we highly recommend the gallery as a “must visit” destination. Even if your wallet is empty when you visit, be advised that you may find yourself drooling over the prospect of owning one or more of the items they make and sell there.
