On Nov. 18, during the Festival of the Cranes, El Camino Real will celebrate its first anniversary with living history demonstrations of life on El Camino Real. The staff will lead tours of the center and its grounds with weaving demonstrations, guitar music and other specials. Writer Hal Jackson will speak and sign copies of his book, “Following the Royal Road: A Guide to the Historic Camino Real de Tierra Adentro,” at 2 pm.

The El Camino Real Heritage Center hosts lots of fun family-oriented one day or weekend-long events throughout the year. Many of their events are designed to appeal to both adults and kids with lots of fun activities planned. Steppin' Out attended and enjoyed their Mexican Independence Day celebration on September 16. The event offered many enjoyable moments for all who attended. The highlights of the afternoon included a delightful ballet folklorico performance, art activites plus a large piñata for the kids. We've posted a special gallery of some of the fun that day. To enjoy our Mexican Independence Day photos, click here (http://sonewmex.com/pp-514/showgallery.php/cat/585).
