Mountainair - Rob Drexel is known around the world for his unique pitfire and raku pottery. Luckily Mountainair, New Mexico will be home to Rob for the month of October.

Not only will Rob have a oneman show of his pitfire pottery at Cibola Arts Gallery, he’ll also be offering pottery workshops just outside of town. Rob’s “Playing with Fire Show” opens on Oct. 14th. There will be an opening reception at the gallery from 2-4 pm on that day, and the show will run through Nov. 2nd.

During much of this time he has sold his work exclusively through fine craft and art galleries in Montana, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and California. His dramatic, tasteful vessels are rich with warm colors and surprising patterns and finishes.

Rob’s pottery workshops are scheduled as follows. On October 6-8, he will teach a pitfire workshop. Finally on Oct. 13-14, Rob will teach a Raku and Horsehairing workshop.

Then, in November, the artists of Cibola Arts Gallery ask the question, “RU2D2?”

The answer is yes, as the gallery will be showing the work of nine 2-D artists in their “RU2D2 Show” opening Nov.4th with an opening reception from 2-4 pm; the show runs through Nov.22nd. These nine artists range from pastel to photography to abstract oils.

Barbara Montgomery is a talented painter and craftswoman. She shows a large display of Christmas decorative items that she sells all year round.

Shirley Simmons is a plein air painter whose oil paintings are striking depictions of Southwest landscapes.

John Davidson’s work is represented in numbered and limited edition prints.

Marilyn Conway offers her fine art photography in both giclee prints and greeting cards. These hand-painted Silver Gelatin photographs are unique due to its individual hand-painted qualities. Executed in editions of 25, Marilyn’s photographs hold those tones reminiscent of Andrew Wyeth.

Her paintings capture the essence of living in rural New Mexico.

Also exhibiting are Dennis Ziegler and Timothy Wyllie, abstracts and representational art; and Ann Adams is a nature photographer. Cibola Arts Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and the gallery is located at 217 W. Broadway.
