Art, Candles, Carolers and Shoppers to Fill Historic Plaza

Socorro – Over 20 artists will exhibit their works in a dozen shops around the plaza for the 3rd annual Luminarias on the Plaza Arts Crawl on Friday, Dec. 8 from 5-8:30 pm.

In what is becoming a favorite holiday tradition, the plaza and surrounding downtown takes on a festive atmosphere with strolling carolers and musicians, and hundreds of luminarias lighting the way to all the delights. Stores will be open late and many will serve refreshments and have entertainment or demonstrations along with specials. Many of the shops will host the same artists as last year and the variety and selection is sure to be great. Come meet and greet the artists as you round out your holiday shopping list.

Start at the Socorro Chamber of Commerce office where they will have maps detailing the evening’s events and places. Willy Bond will be showing at the Chamber.

Manzanares Street Coffeehouse: Chrysan Sprang and her pottery and Margaret Middleton and her fiber art.
Spoke-n-Word Cycles: Olaf Heintz, woodwork
Socorro Insurance Mart: Dońa Nowicki, Jeb Dean, Bev Hansen and Karyn DeBont will show their paintings
Jessies: Jessica Ryan
Socorro Office Supply: Georgette Gray and Alfred Blaszczak
Curves: Jan Thomas and Liz Alvarez
Gambles: Jenny Blomquist
Bobbi’s Bobbins: Fiber Arts Guild
Socorro Picture Framing: Leon Miler
Plaza Café: Thereas Boracci and Tony Perrault.
Fullingim-Isenhour-Leard Galleries: The gals plus Margie Lucena
Be sure to go to the Socorro County Arts Gallery, on the south side of Finley Gym, which will feature works by Georgia Raymond and Cathi Van Fleet.

Other shops which are participating are Gene’s Florist; Favor-It-Things; Sundance Gifts and Casa de Regalos. The New Mexico Jazz Band will play at the Manzanares Street Coffeehouse and Roon will play at the Plaza Café. At the Socorro County Arts Gallery, Carlos and Stasia will play. The high school chorus and 3rd grade Recorder band also will provide music along with strolling minstrels.
