Magdalena — Highway 60 in Magdalena will sparkle with luminarias and Christmas lights as Village merchants celebrate Nights of Lights on Saturday nights this December.

Many Magdalena businesses will be open from 5 to 7 pm on Dec. 9th, 16th, and 23rd to serve local holiday shoppers as well as those from surrounding communities, and all lights will illuminate simultaneously at 5 pm each night. These Nights of Lights will kick off on Dec. 9th with a parade and lighting of the Village Christmas Tree at the Magdalena Fire Station, and Magdalena restaurants will join in to provide dining opportunities for shoppers.

On Main Street, you’ll find the Magdalena Café in its beautiful new location, just south of Highway 60, with the same great food — and a brand new dinner menu. The Market Place will offer hot cider and cookies and is featuring a special studio sale by Magdalena area glass artist, Sara Creekmore, along with unique holiday cards and nativity scenes by Native American artists. The Magdalena Feed Company offers holiday gifts for cowboys and cowgirls along with feed, tack, and ranch and hunting supplies, and will offer free hot cocoa during the Nights of Lights.

On Highway 60, just east of town, Blue Canyon Gallery displays paintings, prints, and drawings of the area along with wire sculpture and jewelry, pottery, and other works by local artists, and will be having a 10-percent off sale all month. Head back into town to Peppers Art Gallery, featuring a fantastic variety of Indian and fine art, in all price ranges, from more than 90 area artists. You’ll find rustic and barnwood furniture, cowboy art, and Western home décor at The Bunkhouse, with new arrivals weekly and special sales all month. For refreshments and snacks, stop at the Golden Spur Lounge, featuring live music on Saturday nights, or Evetts Café, open every evening.

Head west to Gallaher Realty, which offers homes, land, investment properties, ranches, and property management, along with excellent service, and then across the street to the Magdalena Arts Gallery. More than a dozen area artists show their work at this collaborative gallery, including fiber arts, oil and watercolor paintings, silk Batik paintings, wood carving, tie-dyed clothing, glass art, and jewelry. Alamo Hardware has been meeting Magdalena’s hardware needs for 27 years with plumbing, heating, welding, and garden supplies, housewares, and much more, and its Moore Maker and Columbia River pocket knives make great gifts. Mill Canyon Wool Processing offers wool, alpaca, mohair, and other fiber for weaving, knitting, and felting in a great variety of colors, and you’ll also find wonderful gifts such as handknit scarves, natural soaps and lotions, and handcrafted alpaca teddy bears. At the west end of town, across from Trail’s End Market, Little Maggie’s Mercantile features local, regional, and imported fine arts and crafts, handmade jewelry and pottery, fiber arts, home décor, medicinal herbs and teas, and a colorful selection of handcrafted holiday ornaments and decorative objects from both near and far.

Each participating business will provide a large decorated box to collect nonperishable food and toys, which the Village of Magdalena will use for Christmas baskets for needy children. For more information, please call Betty Campbell at 854-2727 or Linda Giesen at 854-2180.

We look forward to seeing you!
