Magdalena: London Frontier Theatre
continues Lost Wife Creek Series

Magdalena – Despite drought and the Great Depression, spring is literally busting out all over in Lost Wife Creek: Daisy’s new calf arrives, 100 baby chicks need to be kept warm inside, and local wildlife makes a surprise appearance on the Trotter homestead. So, too, does a Federal Writers Project interviewer, who gets a distinctly “different” slant on life in rural New Mexico.

Then, there’s talk of Roosevelt’s New Deal REA; will the Rural Electrification Administration finally bring “the Electric” to the Aragon and Trotter farms? Does this mean the end of kerosene lanterns and hand-pumping water – or just one more new-fangled thing to take away farmers’ and ranchers’ independence and get them into debt? In any case, it may be years down the road, and Manny has a great idea to speed up the process and bolster the Aragon fortunes.

NEW LIFE, 12th episode of LFTC’s popular Lost Wife Creek series (each a complete play in itself), again stars the original cast, who brought to life the Aragons and Trotters in 2001 with The Luck Of Lost Wife Creek. Featured in New Mexico Magazine, and reviewed as, “Historic, nostalgic, hilarious and thoroughly enjoyable”, the series is set in southwestern New Mexico and rollicks along to bluegrass banjo.

London Frontier starts its twelfth season in New Mexico with a home of its own! Magdalena’s WPA gym, built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in 1936, is now the WPA Theatre. LFTC was at last able to purchase this historic building in October, 2006, thanks to a USDA community facilities grant, a NM Community Development loan, help from Magdalena Schools, NM EDD, and teacher/columnist Jack Fairweather, and generous contributions from our Friends of the Theatre.

Who are the “Friends”? They are audience and supporters, whose donations help keep LFTC operating. What does it mean to be a “Friend”? (Besides our eternal gratitude, and a tax deduction?) Each Friend will have their name/ business name on a plaque in the theatre, and listed in our programs and on our website. Any Friend who buys two adult tickets for a performance will be given a third ticket free. And there will be a yearly Gala for Friends (this year, on May 5th): food and entertainment, a chance to tell us what you’ve liked/disliked (get fed for being a critic!) and to make suggestions for creation of future plays. So be a Friend, and come celebrate with us.
