Palomas: Plaza Victor - Fixes Teeth, Cars and Hunger Pangs...
Yellow building points way to food, dentists & quality auto repair
By Marjorie Lilly – Deming

Palomas, Mexico – Victor and Angela Zizumbo own the canary-yellow building with the name “Plaza Victor” that can be seen one block to the right after you pass through the Mexican Port of Entry from Columbus, NM. For several years there have been three popular dentist offices, and for even longer there’s been a trusted auto body shop that Americans patronize in droves.

Zizumbos bought part of the building in 1981. “It’s taken us 25 years to build."

The Zizumbos bought part of the building back in 1981. “It’s taken us 25 years to build.” Two of the dental clinics opened their doors eight years ago. Laura Ogas of Family Dental Practice (1-877-488-3384) got her D.D.S. degree in Chihuahua and developed her career for a year in Silver City. She speaks English fluently. She emphasizes that Americans cross the border daily. “You can go over really easily,” she says.

Lam Dental Clinic (1-877-740- 8985), with Guillermo Lam and his wife Rossana Cisneros, opened their office that same year. They both got their D.D.S. degrees in Juarez. Lam worked for another clinic in Palomas for five years before starting his own.

Felipe Salazar of Family Dentisty (505-313-1081) has had an office in the Plaza Victor since 2001. Victor Zizumbo’s respected auto body and paint shop La Frontera (505) 549-2775) has been around for 27 years. “People know the quality of our work,” says his wife Angela. “We are honest people, they trust us.” He was raised in the U.S. and speaks English. “I was in Motor Transport in the Marines,” he says. “For the past three years I’ve been doing a lot of car shows.” He does special finishes, like “pearl” and “meta-flake,” and specializes in upholstery work.

“I do mostly insurance work,” he says. “My business is reported in both the U.S. and in Mexico.” Since August last year, Angela has owned “Olono’s Pizza” on the second floor. Besides pizzas, there are bulky, delicious meat sandwiches, cappuccinos, and lots of side orders that can be eaten on the balcony outside.
