Double Six Gallery & Cibola Arts Council expand exhibit schedule for 2007

Grants – The Cibola Arts Council begins the 2007 year in its new headquarters the Double Six Gallery, at 1001 Santa Fe Ave on historic Rt. 66 in Grants, after its most successful year to date.

“We’re bouncing from that success into a triple-show schedule,” says executive director Robert Gallegos.

The expanded schedule for February includes the annual meeting of the Cibola Arts Council with a dinner on Feb. 16 followed by a concert by master guitarist Michael Chapdelaine. Tickets are only $10 per person for the show. Call 505-287-7311 for details.

Member artists will hang new works by Jan. 31. This group of talented artists in their initial show at the new gallery presented works from oils on various mediums, acrylics and watercolors in numerous genres, large dimensional landscape photography, abstract and impressionistic sculpture and pottery. Their works will be on exhibition in the large hall through March.

Then on Feb. 24, the Double Six Gallery will host receptions for its two additional shows:

The second annual Mt. Taylor Tribute, a multi-media show, was very successful last year. The impressive mountain dominates much of the landscape and not surprisingly also figures in many of the works by local artists. This year’s show is anticipated to be much larger.

The debut of the Double Six Youth Gallery, a permanent exhibit space within the gallery will showcase young artists in the region. Robert Gallegos said he is working with the Laguna Middle School for this debut show and hopes to work with all the regional schools to “allow greater exposure for the many skilled artists in our schools.”
Opening the youth gallery is the culmination of much work and vision on the part of the Cibola Arts Council and its hardworking staff and volunteers.

Double Six Gallery is open Monday through Friday 1-5 pm and Saturday 9-5. Call 505-287-7311 for details.
