Friends of Bosque campaign to buy Chupadera Peak
almost halfway there... Can YOU help?
Bosque del Apache – Friends of the Bosque are nearing the halfway point in their drive to reach the summit. The group needs to raise a total of $63,000 to purchase the top of Chupadera.<img src=http://sonewmex.com/images/DSC_3835.jpg align=right vspace=5>
The popular Chupadera Wilderness hiking trail ends at the Bosque’s boundary, some 200 yards short of the summit. The 6,272 foot peak is privately owned but has been offered to the refuge for the special price.
Donations in any amount are being received for the special purchase. For more information, call the Friends group at 838-2120 or 835-1828.
[Editor's note: One particularly energetic and devoted Friend of the Bosque took a nasty tumble on a slippery January morning in his hurry to get this story to us before our print-deadline. Please help us assure he doesn't break his loveable neck in his valiant struggle to help Friends of the Bosque raise these funds ASAP?
Thanks, folks. We'd rather not see the Friends rename this peak in honor of members who fell in the line of duty while trying to get these funds raised!]
