There's something fishy about Passionada
Passionada - written and produced by Jim and Steve Jermanok - is a full length motion picture that tells a fascinating and funny love story. It was one of five independently-produced feature films at the 2007 White Sands Film Festival. Such films are not presently treated as competitors in Alamogordo.
There's something fishy about Passionada. Perhaps that's because it takes place in the Portuguese fishing village of New Bedford, Mass. Screenwriters Steve and Jim Jermanok (also Exec Producer) introduce us to beautiful singer Celia Amonte (Sophia Milos) and her perky but hard to control daughter, Vicky (Emmy Rossum). Widow Celia sings about love in night clubs but wants no part of it. Vicky works hard to help card-counter / suitor Charlie Beck win her heart. The film is as well written, acted and shot as it is captivating, intriguing, complex and humorous. The performances are as impeccable as the sound and camera work are beautiful.
The Jermanok brothers deserve both kudos and compliments for taking what could have been just another love story and turning” it into a first class full-length movie. Passionada keeps audiences glued to their seats out of concern they might miss a key scene and never be able to figure out why a character behaves the way they do. In fact trying to guess the secrets and unresolved issues of the characters is a large part of what makes it fun. All in all it’s a great production even though it received no awards at White Sands.
As one of the full-length "Feature Films", Passionada wasn't in the running for awards in Alamogordo. Nonetheless, we thoroughly enjoyed Passionada and believe our readers will too. Therefore, we're pleased to recommend it to you. Passionada is a great film that's just about perfect for a romantic evening "home at the movies"... but don't tell your lover we said that!

IMDB’s high-quality video sample requires a fast broadband connection and Windows Media Player installed on your PC. The New York Times sample supports both fast and slow broadband viewers if you have either Real Player or Windows Player installed. Both sites also provide lengthy and well written reviews of Passionada as well. Sadly, neither feed is designed to work for dial-up users and Passionada has no web site. So, dialup users won’t be able to preview this film. Both sites sell the DVD through Amazon which claims to have a few used copies at a discount.
