Festival Fetes Products and Skills of New Mexico's Top Fiber Artists
Thousands of Fans Expected to Attend Bi-Annual Show

Featuring fiber art exhibits created by the juried artists, the event hosts special fashion shows, educational exhibits and demonstrations along with some 50 local and national vendors of fine fiber art and art supplies.
This year’s featured artist is Katy Widger, an Edgewood artist nationally known for her contemporary art quilts. Her mastery of dyeing techniques can be seen in her creations. Each of her beautiful pieces are essentially a collage of fabrics. She uses exciting colors and textures to construct her paintings. She is the author of "The New Color Wheel Fabric Dyeing" and "Print Your Own Fabric". This is one of her works.">Look for the purple Snug Buggy outside the Creative Arts Building. The Dropped Stitch Knitters Guild will make a "cozy’ for a VW Bug out of purple 6-inch squares in all types of fiber art. The bug has been loaned for this project by University Volkswagen in Albuquerque and the covered car will be on display outside at the Fiber Arts Fiesta held at the EXPO New Mexico grounds. Money raised will be donated to S.A.F.E. House, New Mexico’s largest shelter and service provider for survivors of domestic violence.
The daily Fashion Shows bring art to wear to the forefront. Members of many guilds have embellished or specially created fashions to show off under the guidance of the Albuquerque Chapter of the American Sewing Guild. Thursday and Friday’s show begin at 5:30 pm while on Saturday, the 1 pm fashion show will feature clothing sewn by and for kids.

This is one of her works.">In addition, co-sponsoring guilds will offer demonstrations on everything from new products and patterns to favorite techniques and hands-on opportunities. Spinning, weaving, silk painting, quilting, beading, knitting, lace making – come see how it’s done.
The 2007 Fiesta will also exhibit Vintage Fiber Art owned by local collectors and offer Feel the Fiber an educational display of fiber art techniques.
The Fiesta will be in the Creative Arts Building at Expo New Mexico, one block north of Central on San Pedro. Hours are Thursday and Friday, May 24 &25 from 10 am to 7 pm and on Saturday, May 26 from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $5 with parking $3/car. The 6th biennial Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta is a fundraiser for the nonprofit Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council, Inc and is co-sponsored by 15 New Mexico fiber art guilds.
