Tularosa, NM: Tucked away on a quiet corner in old Tularosa, New Mexico - just north of fast-growing Alamogordo - is one of the best family-owned small restaurants in southeastern New Mexico and certainly in all of Otero County... The Tulie Oasis is proudly owned and run by Karen and Bob Hembree who previously operated the popular 'Roslyn Cafe' which was featured in the TV series, "Northern Exposure". They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week; and in all the times we've eaten there we've never been disappointed!

We were fortunate enough to find Tulie Oasis back in the summer of 2006 on a hot dry July day when we found ourselves hungry in Tularosa at noon. Back then, "The Oasis" had a small standing-room-only indoor dining room with half a dozen crowded tables and a pleasant shady outdoor patio containing several grills and attractive umbrella tables surrounded by a private adobe wall. We opted to eat on the patio and were quickly served a delicious lunch consisting of homemade soup and a bountiful turkey sandwich with iced tea. The food was great, the service was impeccable and the attractive shady patio was a delightful refuge from the busy and hectic world outside. In short, it was indeed an Oasis in more ways than one. But the best part was, the check was surprisingly low too. Hurray! We were thrilled... delicious food, plentiful portions, great service, a pleasant environment, an hour of peace and quiet, and low prices. What more could two hungry reporters possibly ask for?

We immediately knew we'd be back. The truth is we've returned every time since then that our travels have lead us to the quiet old village of Tularosa.

Like we said, we've never been disappointed. The food continues to be delicious and plentiful. Our meals have always been tasty and pleasant. They've even got a large new indoor dining room now; but we still enjoy eating on that lovely private and intimate patio. And now, we're pleased to encourage friends and supporters to go there and enjoy a tasty home-cooked meal too.

You'll find Tulie Oasis on the corner of St Francis St and highway 70 next to the old Cantina on the edge of Tularosa's downtown district. It has become our favorite place to eat in this quiet and historic New Mexico village.

Please tell Karen and Bob Steppin' Out said "Hello!"; and enjoy your time and meal at one of the best places to eat in Otero County.

Bon appetite!
