El Camino Real International Heritage Center - Yum-m! The exquiste taste of honro-baked bread - it can't be replicated! Now, you can learn how to make your own horno, or outdoor oven, and how to use it.

El Camino Real International Heritage Center El Camino Real International Heritage Center is offering a two-weekend workshop to teach the basics of constructing and maintaining an adobe horno or beehive oven.

The class is limited to 12 participants so you'll want to sign up quickly; reservations are due by Sept. 15. The workshop will be conducted October 13-14 and October 20-21 (This is a 2-weekend project), 9 am - 3 pm at the Center, 300 E. County Rd 1598.
Participants will learn about the history of this ancient cooking technology, horno cooking and baking techniques. The workshop will include lectures and slide-show presentations on the history of adobe and adobe maintenance and conservation.

But this is definitely a hands-on class: Wear old clothes, they promise you'll get them dirty as you learn the skills necessary to construct and operate your own oven. You'll work side-by-side with instructors and other participants to build a horno on-site at the Center. The horno will be a permanent exhibit to be used for educational demonstrations and other special activities at the Center.

Not only will you learn valuable skills which you can take home to make your own horno, you'll also be helping the Center. As a fundraising workshop, all profits will go to El Camino Real IHC Foundation.

Workshop is limited to 12 participants. Cost for workshop is $100.00 per adult members of ECRIHC or $175 for non-members Call 505-854-3600 for reservations.
