Artists and APAS Prep for Popular Animal Rescue Fundraiser

APAS is sponsoring the Third Annual Art & Antiques for the Animals event from 10 a.m. to 4: p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21 at the Historic Garcia Opera House. The Opera House is located just off of California Street at Abeyta Avenue in Socorro.

<img src=http://sonewmex.com/images/woman_riding_horse_md_wht.gif border=0 align=left hspace=5>Co-sponsor for the event is the Magdalena High School Chapter of the National Arts Honor Society. Artists from throughout New Mexico, as well as antique and collectible dealers will be on hand with a wide variety of extraordinary pieces.

<img src=http://sonewmex.com/images/hippo_hula_girl.gif border=0 align=right hspace=5>The juried show features artists working with such diverse media as painting, fiber art, wood turning, pottery, bronzes, Native American art, carvings, glass, jewelry, etc. Prints and note cards will be available also. The center of the Opera House is reserved for antiques and collectibles plus some great new surprises. A drawing will be held at the end of the show for valuable art work and collectibles.

Other new participants include Terri Brown, Ginnie Brown, Don Brown, Fran Ryan, Grace Collins, Carlos Cordeiro and Vintage & More.

<img src=http://sonewmex.com/images/tommy_cat_fish.gif border=0 align=right hspace=5>Returning artists include Georgette Grey, Yvonne & Ilse Magener, Artisan’s Coop, Fullingim/ Isenhour/Leard Gallery, Vern & Nancy Deas, Carmen Soleas, Elaine Neal, Phil & Patti McLain, Jim McLain, Pat Basham and Leon Miler. Jim McLain’s wood turning pieces have national, as well as world-wide collectors.

Proceeds from the event will help fund APAS’ spay/neuter programs to reduce the number of unwanted dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in Socorro County. Each year APAS spends over $20,000 to provide financial assistance to residents unable to pay the full cost of spaying or neutering their companion animals.
