SW New Mexico Community Draws Kudos in Unexpected Places
Silver City, New Mexico – Silver City has always been cool. But to be recognized and named one of the “Ten Coolest Towns” in the U.S. by Budget Travel Magazine in the September issue is an honor that took city residents a little by surprise.
It was also listed as one of “the 100 best art towns in America” in a book by that name written by John Villani, an author widely published in top magazines such as Vanity Fair, Art News, and US News and World Report.
The town’s Main Street Project in August was recognized for its efforts with awards for excellence in business development and preservation, among others.
Obviously, many agree Silver City is a perfect week-end getaway whether you’re looking for art, entertainment or the great outdoors. And this time of year is a great time for visiting. While you’re there, be sure to stop in at these places:
The Eklektikas Gallery has a darkly luminous and varied selection of creative arts on Yankie Street, the heart of the gallery district downtown.

Check out This That and The Other, an eclectic selection of new and gently used merchandise, also in the heart of the city.

Diane’s Bakery and Deli on the famous Bullard Street lives up to the superlative reputation of its parent restaurant by the same name.

Last but not least, the recently-renovated Motel 6 is a great place to cool your heels at night.
