Do we often discard what could be treasure for others? This isn’t happening in Capitan, where the villagers share and give unto others what they themselves can no longer use. Clothing, coats, furniture, toys, any usable items find their way to the Not 2 Shabby Shop, located at 217 Lincoln Avenue.
Here in this humble old building is a repository of recycled goods, which can fulfill your needs for warm sweaters, kitchen items, gifts, heaters, homey adornments. Hand embroidered cloths, and hand made lace find their way here too, recycled from caring homes and hands.
Every time I have visited this shop, I have found exactly what I needed, and at blessedly low prices... sweaters and warm t-shirts for twenty five cents, chairs and tables for a few dollars. Ornaments, candle holders and baskets for pennies.
“I have found books of French poetry, epistles on philosophy and tomes of literature...
“I have found exactly what I needed, and at blessedly low prices... sweaters and warm t-shirts for 25 cents...
I moved to New Mexico from San Diego with only what I could carry in the back of my van. I found all that I could hope for to build my “nest” in the cottage I rented, at this rural recycling shop. One by one the needed items appeared and one by one each treasured piece came home with me. Warm clothing for the cold winter, pots, pans, blankets, pillows all appeared, were offered by the community at the Not 2 Shabby Shop and filled a need for me.. at needed low prices.
How sweet is life when we use well and with gratitude all that we’ve been given and do need, then pass on the super abundance to others. The Village of Capitan seems to know this great lesson well and to practice it down to a person.
It is amazing, too, that the whole town serves the cause of “Re-use, recycle, respect” for it’s own sake, but also, that monies from sales at the Not 2 Shabby Shop go directly to building a bigger and better library for the community.
At this tiny village library, I have found books of French poetry, epistles on philosophy and tomes of literature that one would expect to find only in elite bookstores in some posh islet of contemporary intellectualism. This community is a community of readers╔ readers of important and classical literature. Readers of humor, readers of politically enlightening works, readers of depth, readers who take their reading seriously as they keep within their quiet rural dwellings.
The entire community supports this library in Capitan. They support its growth by giving to the Not 2 Shabby Shop, where they know that others will benefit from the goods and the library will benefit from the monies garnered. Please visit and see if you too, will find what you need here.
In this season of thanksgiving, donations of winter clothing, household goods and cash are now being accepted at the Not 2 Shabby Thrift Store in Capitan. All donations are tax deductible and benefit the Capitan Library, while providing needed items for the community. Not 2 Shabby Shop: 217 Lincoln Avenue, Capitan, New Mexico, 88316 505-354-0149
