Valencia County artist gathers accolades
in national shows with winning pastel scenes

Los Lunas, NM – Donna Van Leer says she has always been interested in art but didn't become “a serious student until I began art lessons in 1997.”
She was introduced to pastels and that quickly became her medium of choice – and has brought her numerous awards and accolades in the ensuing years.

And her "Prickly Business" won 3rd at this year's State Fair Show. She has been juried into the Masterworks of New Mexico show for the last six years and in 2005 was named to the International Pastel Artists' Showcase Originals 2005 at the Santa Fe Museum of Fine Arts, sponsored by the National Museum for Women in the Arts.

"I set up many on glass," she says, "the reflections add an element of interest as well as a challenging degree of difficulty.
