Once in a Lifetime Songwriting Duo Release New CD

Party at the historic Capital Bar Jan. 19

Socorro, NM – Following the success of the CD Once in a Lifetime (a haunting ballad, lamenting the victims of Hurricane Katrina which became a virtual anthem in many areas across the U.S.), the songwriting duo of Socorro artists Tery Kincaid and Mariam Funke have teamed up for a second CD to be released January 19, 2008, at a small party in Socorro, New Mexico. ( U.S.A.)

A limited number of tickets are available for the event at Socorro's historic Capital Bar.

The old saying, “Anyone who thinks something can’t be done, should stay out of the way of those who are doing it,” has never applied more aptly than to two New Mexico songwriters who continue to beat the odds, so to speak, placing over a dozen songs into television and movie soundtracks in the past eighteen months.

It is surprising in itself, having written together for less than three years, that Terry Kincaid and Mariam Funke, have penned over 100 songs. Even more astounding is the quick and ongoing accomplishments that these artists have experienced while combining their diverse, multi-genre music styles.

The success of Terry and Mariam’s first collaboration in 2005 was a good indication of what the future held for these two songsmiths. Once in a Lifetime, a haunting ballad, lamenting the victims of Hurricane Katrina became a virtual anthem in many areas across the U.S. After Kincaid and Funke publicly donated all download proceeds raised by the song, a west coast media company voluntarily set up a web site, whereby a donation of $5 or more to any of three listed charities provided a free download. The song received significant radio play around the world and ultimately raised nearly a half a million dollars, paid directly to the charities for hurricane victims.

Both gold record holders for work they did prior to teaming up, Kincaid and Funke have their sights set to continue to produce material that is appropriate for television and big screen placement, but also to concentrate their labors on songs that have considerable potential to be recorded by name artists.

Kincaid and Funke have just released their second CD as a team. The album titled, Through the Stage Door, has already received considerable attention. Noted record producer, Peter Willis wrote; “The new CD by New Mexico songwriters Kincaid and Mariam is a soulful collection of powerful, cohesive, magnetic music, full of innovation and significant hit-potential. In the wide range of Mayer, Springsteen and LaMontagne, this powerful alternative-bluesy album is filled with peerless instrumentation, breathy-sincere vocals and unassailable magnetism.”

Although Terry and Mariam focus their efforts primarily toward writing and recording, they also do some live performing as the group Huckaby Junction. “HJ,” as they are known locally, includes Bev Gallaher, Denise Eilers, Colleen Grayson and George Murillo.

A CD release party for the new album, Through the Stage Door, is planned at The Capital Bar in Socorro, Saturday, January 19th. The “Tickets for Two” for the bash are $20 and will include a live performance by Kincaid, Mariam, Huckaby Junction and a few friends, an autographed CD, 2 beers or well drinks, a catered meal by The Stage Door Grill and music later by the fast-rising new Albuquerque rock and roll band, Missing Stateside.

The songwriting team of Terry Kincaid and Mariam Funke may be a contradiction to most typical music writing success stories, but they continue to hold their own with the “big boys,” without compromising their choice to live in rural America or their desire to do the music they love. And what kind of music is that exactly?

As Terry says, “it’s sort of … alternative rock and blues with a little Cajun and country, and a touch of gospel and jazz … I guess you could just call it America’s music … that pretty much covers it.”
