Las Cruces goes all out for "Love of Art Month"
in February

Las Cruces – ArtForms Artists Association celebrates its 10 anniversary with a greatly expanded For the Love of Art Month Events are diverse and include visual art shows, theater, dance programs, concerts, and a special anniversary gala.

The ArtForms For the Love of Art Month Member Show will feature 50 artists opening during the Downtown Ramble on Friday, Feb. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will remain open through Saturday, March 1, at the Branigan Cultural Center, 500 N. Water Street on the north end of the Downtown Mall. The museum is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Other shows include The “Love and Chocolate” show at the Las Cruces Museum of Art – featuring the New Mexico Watercolor Society Southern Chapter; Society of Layerists in Multi-Media at the Blue Gate Gallery, Ruth Drayer’s Dreamscapes at the Cottonwood Gallery of the Southwest Environmental Center, and the art of Joanna Bradley and Kurt Van Wagner in the two galleries of the Rio Grande Theatre. Also visit the ongoing show at the theatre gallery of the Black Box Theatre with works by many artists, inspired by the songs of Patsy Cline.

Two weekends of Studio and Gallery Tours with 27 locations and over 30 artists are being offered. Look for distinctive ArtForms Artists Studio Tour signs during the weekends of Feb. 9 and 10 and Feb. 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Studio tour maps will be available at the Blue Gate Gallery, the Convention and Visitors Bureau (and their Web site), the Cultural Center de Mesilla, The Bean, and other locations.


As part of ArtForm’s goal of filling the town with art, over 40 venues are participating this year in showing art during the month of February. Venue lists will be available
at the same locations as the studio tour maps.

Catch the Las Cruces Arts Association show, “For the Love of Abstract Art,” opening at the Tombaugh Gallery at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Sunday, Feb. 3, from noon until 2 p.m. and open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit the annual Las Colcheras Quilt Guild’s “Echoes of the Rio Grande” show, sale and demonstration at NMSU’s Corbett Center on Feb. 9 and 10.

Fiber art is featured at Abby Osborne’s show at Laughing at the Sun in Mesilla at the Old Tortilla Factory. Also, The Studio of Drawings by Maria Cristina for her original art inspired by Mexican artists of the 1930s to 1960s.


The Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery’s annual “My Masterpiece” show is all month with artists reception on Saturday, Feb 9, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The David Rothermel Fine Arts Gallery presents “For the Love of the Organs,” a silent auction of a framed giclee print by David Rothermel to benefit the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance.

There are also theatre productions, dance, music performances, literary events and a host of other activities.

The month will wrap up with a Tenth Anniversary Gala for ArtForms on Feb. 29. Tickets must be purchased by February 14 and are available at the Blue Gate Gallery on the Downtown Mall. The gala will feature a catered prime rib dinner and live dance music performed by The Cadillac Kings.
