Friday, Feb. 22. Three vaudeville performers bring an evening of hilarity, dexterity and music made with all kinds of “instruments” during the Madcap Variety show. Audiences will see world class juggling, cowboy tricks, witty comedy and “a magnetic orchestra of one.” The three friends combine their talents for a fascinating evening of entertainment. Tickets are $14 for adults with discounts for seniors and children.
Rhys Thomas defines his juggling as “dances with stuff.” He has performed in theaters and festivals on three continents and in diverse venues. Leapin’ Louie Lichtenstein, a character comedian, master trick roper and juggler, has performed in 21 countries. A member of Clowns Without Borders USA, he has performed for wars and hurricane victims. And Michael Shoehorn Conley is a magnetic orchestra of one – creating music with his feet and dance with his horn as he improvises on standards, blues, rock, world music and his own compositions.
Friday, Feb. 29. Cava offers a “new configuration of Latin powered Jazz with a tinge of Peruvian soul weaving in and out of Cumbia, Salsa, Afro-Cuban Son and Ska.” Claudia Gonzales communicates a strong-willed feminine energy that is simultaneously sultry and maternal. She has toured with Beastie Boys keyboardist Money Mark and with Charanga Cakewalk; as lead singer with Domingosiete, she has opened for acts such as Los Lobos. Cava is a combination of sounds unique to a Mexican-American upbringing. The ensemble features Walter Miranda on Piano, electric-Keyboards&Bass, Alfredo Ortiz on Drums, Timbales and Taiko Master Maceo on Japanese drums. Tickets are $12 for adults with discounts for seniors and children.
Friday, March 7. The Presidential Chamber Music Concert series, sponsored by NM Tech president Daniel Lopez, brings The Matisse Piano Trio to Macey Center in a free concert. The trio is composed of Katie Wolfe on violin, Anthony Arnone on cello and Ksenia Nosikova on piano. The program will include Quartet No. 1 for Piano & Strings by John T. Bullock; Piano Trio in GH Major “Gypsy Rondo” by Franz Joseph Haydn and Piano Quartyet in G Minor by Johannes Brahms.
