Carrizozo, NM – Peace. We all want it. But what does it mean? And what path can we take to achieve it?
From 4 pm to 7 pm on April 19th, Gallery 408 on 12th Street in Carrizozo will host artists, poets and peaceful folk from throughout Lincoln County to open an art show titled “Artists For Peace”. The artists and poets will demonstrate their support for peace by displaying art and reading poems.” The exhibit will remain on display at Gallery 408 through May 17th.
“The Artists For Peace exhibit at Gallery 408 features a group show of artists from Lincoln County (who) have chosen to work and express their ideas on Peace in a variety of materials and images including two dimensional and three-dimensional work, videos and performance art,” said Joan Malkerson, an artist and Gallery 408 owner who is organizing the show.
“We all want peace in our country and peace in the world…but what exactly does that mean? These artists interpret the concept of Peace in a variety of situations: political, religious, environmental and personal.”
This show will create in a positive format a conversation about Peace and what it means to us on many different levels.
At least eight artists will participate in this first-of-its-kind Carrizozo Art Show. According to Malkerson, artists and poets who’ll participate include: Virginia Braden, “Rwanda”; Joyce Bovee, performance poet; Rod Fiddler, Veterans for Peace; Pia Imas, “Tolerance” sculpture; Virginia Watson Jones, “Peace in the Land”; Joan Malkerson, “Tolerance” sculpture ; Ann Pollard, “Peace” bronze sculpture ; Karen Smith, “Peace Tree Air Grams”.
“The list may grow over the next few weeks,” Malkerson added.
Artists For Peace will begin at 4 p.m. on April 19th at Gallery 408 with readings by participating poets. The readings will be followed by an artists’ reception from 5 – 7 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Monday-Saturday 10 am- 5 pm and noon- 5 pm on Sunday.
