Santa Fe – Hollywood producers, screenwriters and attendees alike have praise for past years’ Screenwriting Conference in Santa Fe (SCSFe). This year, May 27-June 1, the 10th annual conference promises to be just as highly acclaimed. With New Mexico the newest, best location for filmmaking, SCSFe plays an even greater significance to those who want to learn the art and craft of writing a screenplay – and a chance to market their screenplay to producers.
The conference is divided into two components: The Screenwriting Symposium, an extraordinary opportunity to learn from some of Hollywood’s most successful screenwriters and screenwriting teachers; and The Hollywood Connection, a weekend of learning how to market your ideas, learning what producers are thinking and private pitching sessions with chosen producers.
The Symposium begins on Tuesday and includes a special “Karl Iglesias Day” on Wednesday. His focus is “Writing for Emotional Impact.”
The symposium continues through Saturday with labs and mentor classes (limited seating available); specialized seminars covering a myriad of topics in small classroom settings and a Mentor Panel Discussion on the pros and cons, ins and outs, and ups and downs of showbiz as it relates to screenwriters.
The Screenplay Competition - Actors Choice Awards competition is open exclusively to conference attendees. The five winners will have the opportunity to hear their scenes read by a cadre of actors before a live audience. Deadline to enter the competition is no later than May 7th.
Conference attendees also can have a 20-minute private session with our professional consultants to review the first 10 pages of your script.
The emphasis of The Hollywood Connection on Saturday and Sunday is on marketing your screenplay. “We will have Hollywood Producers attending who are looking for material. At our 2007 event more than 100 scripts were requested!,” said conference organizers Larry Stouffer.
Here’s what some of the mentors and faculty have said about the conference:
“A superb experience,” – Ian Abrams, Undercover Blues;
“It’s not the teaching of theory; it’s the real stuff, offered in a human-scale, give and take atmosphere,” – Gerald DiPego, The Forgotten, Phenomenon, Angel Eyes, Instinct, Message in a Bottle;
“This is far and above the best screenwriting conference I’ve been to,” – Kate McCullah Lutz, Legally Blonde;
“A truly rewarding convergence of writer and producer, fostering inspiration and education for the artist and the professional in us all,” said Matthew Seigel, producer, Wide Awake, Inc.
