Lincoln, NM- Partners In Preservation and Lincoln State Monuments invite you to meet the Billy the Kid Trail Riders as they complete a seven-day trail ride from Fort Sumner through the Capitan Mountains with historic Lincoln as the final destination.

Lincoln is the town made famous by Billy the Kid during the days of the Lincoln County Wars. The Kid was held captive in the historically preserved courthouse here, and it was from here that he made his last escape and headed over the Capitan Mountains seeking freedom. This ride follows the trail used by The Kid, in the reverse direction.

“With historically accurate reenactments, story telling, safe horsemanship, and professional contacts, The Billy the Kid Trail Ride, through its host ranches, offers a true western experience, while preserving lands and landmarks,” says a reviewer.

When the riders arrive in Lincoln they and the public will be feted with a green chile dinner at the Lincoln State Monument Visitor’s Center, which starts at 5:30 pm. There will be music by Mark Remington and a variety of storytellers will awe everyone with their knowledge of Billy the Kid, the Lincoln County War and “any other topic that they might think pertinent.” Dancing under the stars will follow.

Join the Trail Riders for the dinner, dance and entertainment. Tickets are $10 per person. Call 575-653-4609 or 575-653-4670.
