Alamo Mercantile opens on California Street in Socorro
Socorro NM- Alamo Mercantile formerly Alamo Navajo Arts and Crafts is now open for business.
The building, at 1008 N. California, is owned by the Alamo Navajo Chapter and will be managed by Ginny and David Beres, residents of Alamo.
Silverwork, weaving, pottery and other arts and crafts from the Alamo community will once again be offered at the store, but the store will carry other specialty items as well. Ginny and David Beres, coowners of Globetraders LLC, will manage the store on behalf of the artists and craftspeople in Alamo.
“A&J Family Farms Jams and Jellies, Frolicking Deer Lavender and Tamaya Blue Corn Products from Santa Ana Pueblo, will be just a few of the local products that we will offer our customers,” says Ginny Beres, co-owner of the company that will manage the store. Fair Trade coffee and handmade soaps and southwestern t-shirts and aprons are also available at the store.
“We envision our store as a old time community store that offers local products to our customers, a place where visitors can purchase quilts, paintings, jewelry, pottery, or other locally made products. We are seeking interested vendors who would like to join us in creating a warm wholesome venue for local retail. We are also looking for vendors who would like a place to sell their antiques, collectibles and memorabilia,” said Ginny. Display space is available for $5.00 per day.
Plans are underway to open a swap meet in the back of the building. This will allow a greater variety of merchandise to be sold at this location. “Internet marketing is another service we can offer to our vendors in the near future” says David Beres.
Starting in June, hours are Wednesday through Saturday 11 am to 5 pm.
