Socorro – Celebrate the 4th of July on the south side of Macey Center with a full day’s worth of fun packed into the afternoon. There’s lots of activities for kids and a day of great music. Huckaby Junction joins other local favorites for the gig this year.
Huckaby Junction, featuring the songwriting duo of Terry Kincaid and (no-last -name-please) Marian, most recently were compared to Simon and Garfunkel in an enthusiastic music review by Emily Drabanski in the June New Mexico Magazine. Mostly you’ll hear them enlivening the Socorro sound waves at the Stage Door Grill with members Denise Eilers and Bev Gallaher (and a kaleidoscope of other local musicians). Their recent CD Through the Stage Door features the work of local artist Natasha Isenhour on the cover and 16 of the duos originals. “This lively, fast-paced CD is loaded with catchy lyrics and toe-tapping melodies,” says reviewer Drabanski.
Huckaby Junction plays at the outdoor space of Macey Center from 4:30-5:30 pm on July 4. Others performing include The Bernie Romero Band, Tobias René, Last Minute Bluegrass and Remedy.
The day’s music begins with the Socorro Community Band at 11, followed by local dance and martial arts demonstrations and Clan Tynker with his popular juggling and magic show.
New Mexico Tech’s famous fireworks display follows at dusk. For more information, call 575-835- 5688.
