“We love what we do and decided to celebrate the creation of our art by sharing the process with our customers,” said the president of the artists’ cooperative, Matilde Holzwarth, herself a photographer. “We’ll have demonstrations running all day, refreshments, and a lot of beautiful new work on display.”
Participating artists include Bob Shipley, who creates beautiful butter and cheese knives of local native woods; ceramic artist Kathy Lovell, who will demonstrate how to make whimsical animal-shaped whistles in clay; Jane Dobrott, who shapes and decorates distinctive palm straw Western hats for Buffalo Belle Millinery Company; Geno Washburn, who will craft elegant bowls from local native woods; and Melody Sears who will demonstrate pastel painting of still life set-ups and landscapes.
Percha Creek Traders is a cooperative of local artists who operate a large shop in an historic building with seven galleries to showcase members’ work. The group has received notice and acclaim in publications such as New Mexico Magazine and, of course, Steppin’ Out.
