Museum of Heritage & Arts Exhibits Saints & Sacred Places
<img src="http://steppinoutnewmexico.com/images/Retablo_Otero.jpg" align=left border=0 hspace=5>Los Lunas, NM – “Saints and Sacred Places” will be the featured exhibit at the Museum of Heritage and Arts in Los Lunas from October 4 through December 31.
Historic area churches and the religious art of local artisans are the focus of this event at the museum which is located at the intersection of Main Street and Luna Avenue in Los Lunas.
Artists and authors whose works will be on display include Rosa Maria Calles, Ray John de Aragon, Charlie Sanchez Jr., Irene Barraza Sanchez, Vanessa Sanchez, Carlos J. Otero, Nicholas Otero, Alcario Otero, Marie Luna, Kathleen Sais- Lerner, Anita L. Armijo, Patricia Gallegos, John Taylor and Annie Lux.
Museum visitors may access a genealogy resource center and Southwest research collection as well as historical photos and artifacts. In addition an oral history program records people’s memories about events and their lives. Visitors can view many of these interviews. Beginning January 3, 2009 and running through March 31, the museum will host “Cowboys of New Mexico” featuring the work of artist Bob Lee with historic photos and Memorabilia.
The museum will continue the Founding Families series in spring 2009 with pioneering merchants who include the Hunings, Castillos, Nuestadts, and Beckers. A farming component may be added to this. Following the Founding Family series will be a New Mexico history segment to coincide withNew Mexico History class work in the schools.
The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. More information is available by calling 505 352-7720.
