Socorro – An exhibit by prolific local watercolorist Georgette Evans Grey titled “Moving Forward; Looking Back” will hang at the Macey Center Gallery Oct. 7 through Nov. 9. An opening reception is set for Friday, Oct. 10 from 5:30-7:30 pm.
As the title implies, this exhibit promises to give a miniature tour of the artist’s painting life with various stops and side visits along the way and culminating with some new paintings being shown for the first time. A sampling of 19 of Georgette Grey's remarkable paintings are featured here on the Steppin' Out site in our Georgette Grey Artist's Gallery
Georgette’s widely varied works include snow scenes depicting the stark beauty of winter, lush floral portraits, inviting landscapes, and images of local landmarks from coastal New England to the desert Southwest.
Born in Oklahoma, Grey has lived and studied in Ohio, North Carolina, New Mexico, California, and New England. Working almost exclusively now in watercolor, Grey’s love of nature and her skill with watercolor combine to create works enhanced by observation and knowledge. Despite the seeming realism, her work reflects an inner emotional view that the artist refers to as interpretive realism, a style that offers more than the mirror of a photo graph or the technical mastery of a draftsman.
She frequently teaches watercolor and color theory at Tech’s Community College and supports numerous community groups. More information and images can be found at Grey’s website: www.vertuarts.com (http://www.vertuarts.com/)

This non-juried event is open to all Socorro County artists and is always well received. Socorro County has its share of well-known, established and emerging artists and this show is seen and enjoyed by many during the busy fall tourism season.
