Truth or Consequences – A fun and creative art show will be on exhibit the month of December '08 at Rio Bravo Fine Art, 110 East Broadway, Truth or Consequences, NM.

A reception is slated for Saturday, Dec. 13, 6-9 pm. Feel free to bring a mask!

Dianne Evangelista, a featured gallery artist, will be displaying her oil paintings with inspiration from Venice Italy's Carnival. Evangelista's long time dream of going to Italy is captured in these fun and magical images of costumed characters in their facepaint, masks and headpieces. The eyes are a main focus of her work as they stare out from under the masks, full of mystery and expression.

The artist will one day go to Carnival herself and keep the series an ongoing project. All images were taken from photos and then embellished with creative colors and a rich atmosphere. Each piece carries a different mood and energy for the viewer. The show is definitely unique and shows off Evangelista's art background and diverse style.

Most people are not aware of how Carnival in Venice originated. The Carnival in Venice is said to have originated from an important victory of the "Repubblica della Serenissima" (called the town of VENEZIA in those times), in the war against Ulrico, Patriarch of Aquileia, in the year 1162.
To celebrate this victory, dances and reunions started to take place in SAN MARCO SQUARE. With the multicultural character of Venice in that century, magicians and many others joined in on the fun. At the time, Venice was a rather powerful small republic, center of much traveling inside Italy and on the road to China.
In the beginning, this celebration started the day after Christmas. Now celebrated every February, this same classic theme of Carnival is still carried on today. The music of Vivaldi, the masks, the beautiful and mysterious women, craziness and treason, all mixed together. For more 575-894-0572 or visit www.riobravofineart.net
