One of Cibola’s glass artists is Susan Aulde who creates glass tables, wind chimes, stained glass, jewelry, and glassware. Susan’s attraction to glass began when she moved to Chicago and was exposed to the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and his “Prairie Style” design among other things. She attended workshops and classes in the art of foil and leaded glass and was hooked.

Susan’s explorations in glass today are focused around the use of irid glass, a stunning glass in subtle shades of iridescent blacks, golds, greens, reds, and blues. In combination with the metal, this glass gives her work a clean, modern look with a depth of translucence, and the intrigue of iridescence that pulls the eye in. She continues to work on designing window panels using the traditional method of foiling or leading technique, and using enamel paints on glass is one of her favorite methods of creating unique pieces such as wind chimes or water fountains. While still in high-school, another Cibola glass artist, J.G. Anderson, began selling his designs to custom show car builder Albert Trujillo of Belen, NM in the early winter of 1974 and soon after began custom paint design and layout on cars, motorcycles and aircraft paint scheme design for other private individuals.

During this time J.G. was etching designs and artwork on mirror and glass for custom built homes. In the past 18 years he has sold custom-etched glass panels for entryways and interior glass panels and custom bar mirrors. He will have his etched glass panels and lights on display for this show.

Other glass artists that will be represented at this show are Dana and Karen Robbins and Doris and Ron Minnick. The Robbins’ hand-blown glass hummingbird feeders, soap dispensers, and glass ball ornaments play with a wide palette of colors. Doris and Ron Minnick work with both blown and fused glass that are incorporated into necklaces, pendants, wind chimes, glass window ornaments, and bookmarkers.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and the gallery is located at 217 W. Broadway.
