The concert is presented by New Mexico Tech’s Performing Arts Series on Friday, March 20 at Macey Center.
Beoga (Irish word for 'lively’) is a five-piece traditional band, drawn together after 'jamming’ in a ferocious music session at the All-Ireland Fleadh in August 2002. Their unique sound features the twin dueling accordions of Seán Óg Graham and Damian McKee, along with four-time All-Ireland bodhrán champion Eamon Murray and pianist Liam Bradley. In 2005, Beoga was nominated by Irish Music Magazine for the best traditional newcomer’s award. With the addition of one of Ireland’s premier young singers, Niamh Dunne, Beoga have confirmed their reputation as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Ireland in recent years.
Gráda is based in Dublin and Galway, Ireland, where the band began playing together in 2001. The group draws from a wide range of influences, which has seen them working with Dave Hingerty (ex Frames drummer, now working a lot with Josh Ritter); Vyviene Long (cellist with Damien Rice); and, as a producer, Trevor Hutchinson (Lúnasa, Sharon Shannon, The Waterboys). Further additions have included Dublin based trumpeter Bill Blackmore.
