Belen – Jim Anderson’s portraits of children capture the minds and hearts of all who see them. And some might have seen them without realizing it: The

Anderson's art has been featured at Greenwich Workshop Gallery, Galleria di Sorrento, Caesar's Forum Shops, St. George Museum, and Oil painters of America National Shows.

Belen artist’s work has appeared on the covers of Directory Plus in Valencia and Socorro Counties for the last few years.

That is a local tribute to the artist whose work has been accepted at Greenwich Workshop Gallery, Fairfield, CT.; Galleria di Sorrento, Caesar's Forum Shops, Las Vegas; St. George Museum, Utah; and Oil painters of America National Shows.

Jim traces his love of art to a visit of St. Peter’s Cathedral in 1968 at which time he decided that he would love to be able to create the kind of beauty found in the renaissance paintings of the Vatican. He bought some postcards of famous paintings by some of the Old Masters, some Italian paints, canvases and brushes. Jim's spare time for the remainder of his four years in the U.S. Navy was spent copying the works of the Old Masters.

He needed the steady income to raise his family but his spare time was still devoted to the study of Art and painting.

In 1996, Jim took an early retirement from engineering and became a full time artist. Jim went back to college and took courses in art and later became a member of the Board of Directors for the University of New Mexico's Alumni for the Arts. Although most of Jim's art is sold locally and is commission work, he has won many awards. His work was selected as one of the top 100 for the 2006 "Arts for the Parks". Jim sells other work at national shows including the Oil Painters of America. Jim's work can be seen at www.JimAndersonArt.com (http://www.jimandersonart.com/).

Jim forms an idea for a painting and then begins by preparing sketches to give to parents of the children he uses in his painting. “In this way I can get the parents to help me get the expressions that I am looking for on the kid's faces. The parents, in trade for their help, get a free print of the finished painting.”

Jim teaches classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; for more information, call 505-865-7870 or send email to Jim@JimAndersonArt.com, or click any image in this article to visit his site and contact the artist.
