Two separate events this weekend in Albuquerque celebrate art and the best of the harvest season. Steppin’ Out encourages you to Step on out to these events – and remember to tell the good folks there that Steppin’ Out sent you, okay? Thanks!

On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21 & 22, the New Mexico Gourd Society hosts is first Gourd Festival at the Albuquerque Garden Center, 10120 Lomas Blvd NE. Some stunning art work is created on a variety of gourds. Come view the art and learn more about this fascinating vegetable.

From 9 am to 6 pm each day you can:

<li>Learn About the History and Horticulture of Gourds
<li>Purchase Dried Gourds from New Mexico Growers

“Join the fun and fellowship of the New Mexico Gourd Society. Discover and explore the wonderful world of gourds.” Call them at 363-6335 or just drop by the Albuquerque Garden Center. To get there, take I-40 East, Eubank exit, left on Eubank (North), left on Lomas Blvd. First left turn goes into Los Altos Park and then the Garden Center parking is the first driveway on the right. Meeting will be in the large Piñon Room.

Then, on Saturday and Sunday, art lovers are invited to join Fred & Kristen Wilson of Wild Strawberry & Muddy Wheel Studios, 3703 Manchester Dr. on Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 23 for An Art Harvest .The festival features 20 New Mexico Artists.

This is a one-of-a-kind North Valley event held at the unique Gallery/Studio/Home of artists’ Fred & Kristen Wilson. It features the works of a wonderful variety of our own New Mexico artists – mostly from Albuquerque and a few from Santa Fe.

It is an opportunity for the public to see artists in a homegrown and relaxed atmosphere. It's also an opportunity for artists’ to participate in a showing of their works that does not charge highpriced fees, and/or where the money made from sales is all their’s.
