Historic Lincoln is the town made famous by Billy the Kid during the days of the Lincoln County Wars. The Kid was held captive in the historically preserved court-house here, and it was from here that he made his last escape and headed over the Capitan Mountains seeking freedom. This ride follows the trail used by The Kid, in the reverse direction.
When the riders arrive in Lincoln after their seven days of riding and camping, their arrival will be greeted with a big “Fandango”….a gathering of the public with dinner, music and dancing at the Lincoln State Monument Visitor’s Center. Storytellers will regale the public with tales of Billy the Kid, the Lincoln County War and other tales of the times of Billy the Kid.
Sponsored by Partners In Preservation and Lincoln State Monuments with funding from Lincoln County Lodgers Tax.
