SOCORRO, NM – Some familiar faces will join forces with several new entertainment acts as the lineup for the annual 4th of July celebration on the southwest side of New Mexico Tech’s Macey Center. The annual gala starts at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 4, and ends with a fireworks display around 9:30 p.m.

Children will enjoy water slides and a jump balloon from 1 to 5 p.m. – or check out The Great Paulissimo Magic Show, also starting at 1 p.m.

The Sandia Hots, a New Mexico swing band, will kick off the dancing around 2:15 p.m. with a sweet mix of southern Appalachian dance tunes and songs, cowboy and early 20th century swing numbers, and songs and dance tunes from New Mexico, Mexico and southern Arizona.

The Rhythm Prophets take to the stage at 3:45 p.m. with a repertoire of classic rock, blues and original music. The band played its inaugural gig at last year’s SocorroFest on the Plaza.

Bryan Olivas and the Bryan Olivas Band, an eight-piece ensemble, take over at 5:30 p.m. with a repertoire of Spanish songs that earned Olivas the New Mexico Hispano Music Association’s (NMHMA) 2007 Male Vocalist of the Year.

The Remedy, which bills itself as Socorro’s own variety band, will close out the show at 8 p.m. as it has done for many years.
