Virginia Casados Clark was one of an impressive 128 artists at the Thanksgiving weekend Cavalcade of Art sponsored by the Rt 66 Society for the Arts.

The entire showroom at the Isleta Casino was filled with arts and artists showing their jewelry, paintings, gourd art, fiber arts, furniture, pottery, candles and sopas, wood crafts, blankets, textile art, folk art and mixed media.

The huge exhibit and sale – praised by Virginia Clark as “very easy to be in” and “very well organized” is over but Virginia’s work and many other fine artists of the Belen and Los Lunas area will continue to showcase work during the week long Gifts from the Heart Tours.

Virginia will be demonstrating the art of straw appliqué, on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 1-5 pm at the Tomé Art Gallery. Virginia says she “came to the art late in life after a career teaching and watching my grandchildren.” Her new-found interest has won her acclaim with top honors in several shows including at the State Fair. Her work ranges from traditional folk designs more contemporary pieces including her ceramic crosses. “I really love playing with the glazes,” says Virginia.
Another fantastic glaze artist is Jan Pacifico, a regular contributor to Tomé Art Gallery. Her ceramic art is exquisite and you can benefit the Christmas tour and yourself when you visit the gallery by purchasing tickets for a drawing of one of her vases. Jan Pacifico also is giving workshops during the week. (see schedule below)

Tomé Art Gallery is a cooperative artists gallery and artists there are happy to report three openings nearby. Just west of Tomé Art is an art and antique shop, Mi Tia Pula. Owner Del Chavez has purchased and renovated his great-grandparents’ home, filling it with antiques and collectibles from furniture to retablos, cannisters to radios, dolls to trunks. Del, who has been living in Santa Fe is having a great time reacquainting himself with the area and his roots. Call Del at 310-9801 for more information and hours.

Just south of Tomé Art Gallery is Charlie Sanchez’s studio with featured santeros and straw appliqué by Charlie Sanchez and Vanessa Sanchez, Nicholas Otero and Carlos Otero and papel Picado by Catalina Delgado Trunk during the Thanksgiving weekend. For information about the studio, call 865-5409.

The, just north of Tomé is the Center for Ageless Living at 3216 Highway 47. Meanwhile, in Belen, the Belen Art League Gallery has rearranged their offerings, filling the walls and corners and center of their showroom with works by member artists. Special demonstrations and showings are planned throughout the week. Call 861-0217 for more information.
