Socorro, NM - Nov 26, 2005: On Saturday evening November 26, both sides of California Street were lined with eager adult and child spectators as they waited for Seņor Santa Claus to arrive in a Parade of Lights from the North Poll to kick-off Socorro's Holiday Season. Santa's arrival was preceeded by an official escort of local police vehicles with lights flashing and sirens running in a deafening din of celebration.
Santa's police escort was followed by an ancient Ford pickup truck as well as several floats bearing small groups of Santa's helpers and elves cleverly disguised to look like Socorro-area children ;), a motorcycle honor guard, a dozen floats, squads of women riding horses plus one horse with a giant hulahoop, singers and last but not least, a fire truck bearing the Jolly Old Man himself. There apparently wasn't enough snow on Socorro's streets to let Santa ride in his reindeer drawn sleigh as he will on Christmas eve. :p
