Socorro –Many Socorroans strolled around the historic Socorro plaza on Friday evening, Dec. 9, for an evening of art, refreshments and holiday music and cheer during the second annual Luminarias on the Plaza Arts Walk.
Luminarias lit the way to participating shops around the area at which local artisans with the Socorro County Arts exhibited their fine arts and crafts. Several more stores participated this year, extending the walk outside the plaza and along Manzanares Street. Rudy Olguin offered horse drawn carriage rides along the luminaria route.
The larger number of participating stores allowed more artists to be featured in the event, making the evening a success, according to organizers and attendees.
Participating stores and artists were:
Chamber of Commerce office, Georgette Grey; LTJ Computer services, Willie Bond; Spoke 'n Word Cycle, Olaf Heintz; Manzanares Street Coffeehouse, Jan Thomas-Mozley and Jim Kolbenshlag; Capitol Bar, Kim Zuidema; Socorro Insurance Mart, bev Hansen, Karyn DeBont and Dona Nowicki; Jessie's Dress Shop, Chrysan Spreng; Casa de Regalos, Ben and Marianne Zimmerly; Favor-It Things, Margaret Middleton; Sundance Gifts, various artists.
Also, Socorro Office Supply, Cle'mente and Alfred Blaszczak, along with the Socorro General Hospital's fundraiser; The Plaza Cafe, Kim Dommer; Fullingim-Isenhour-Leard Galleries, Sharon Fullingim, Natasha Isenhour, Skeeter Leard, Margi Lucena.
Other participating businesses included, Socorro Picture Framing, Leon Miler and other artists in his new gallery space; Bobbie's Bobbin, Grace Wilson; Gambles, Burt Calkins; The Christmas Store, Jessica Ryan; Lorraine's Hair Co., Iva Greiner; and Val Verde Hotel, Theadora and Val Verde Cafe, Cat Brysch and friends. In addition, other stores including the new Plaza Furniture and Brownbilt Western Store were open for the evening.
The Zimmerly flutaphonists and choral group helped with music to light the Christmas tree, and even Santa appeared on the plaza. All in all, it was a wonderful night for art in Socorro.
