Arms Control Maven Scott Ritter to speak at NM Tech
Students for Progressive Action at New Mexico Tech, in conjunction with Socorroans for Democracy and Peace Action/New Mexico, will host Wm.Scott Ritter, Jr., former chief U.N. weapons inspector in Iraq.
Ritter will address the topic "Iraq: How We Got There; Where We're Going" on February 3 at 4:30 pm in Workman Hall 101, adjacent to the Bureau of Geology on Tech campus in Socorro.
From 1991 until 1998, Scott Ritter coordinated the international teams searching for nuclear and chemical WMDs throughout Hussein's Iraq. As a career Marine intelligence officer specializing in Soviet and Mid-East affairs, Ritter served as analyst during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the Iran-Iraq War. He assisted in planning Operations
Desert Shield/Desert Storm against Iraq, briefing daily analyses to the Commander-in-Chief. Mr. Ritter also coordinated reciprocal on-site arms control inspections between the USSR and the United States from 1988 to 1991 in support of the START treaty, receiving two commendations from the Central Intelligence Agency.
For the past seven years, Scott Ritter has lectured, briefed governments, served as Fox and NBC news analyst, written extensively, including articles in Arms Control Today and The Harvard International Review, and published four books on U.S. policy in Iraq. His most recent book, Iraq Confidential from Taurus/Nation Books, will be available for sale and signing both before and after the lecture.
