by Ann Adams, Mountainair

August - September 2004

Mountainair – Ann Adams snapped the photograph for the cover of this issue of Steppin’ Out. Ann moved to New Mexico in 1993 with a desire to earn a living from her writing and woodworking. As an apprentice for world-renowned wood turner, Bud Latven, Ann learned the art of woodturning. She works with both single species woods (particularly burls), and constructed exotic hardwood bowls.

Ann joined Cibola Arts Gallery in 1997. She is Director of Publications for the Savory Center in Albuquerque, an international non-profit working with resource managers to more effectively manage natural resources. You may contact the artist at 505/384-5442 or anna@osogrande.com and you may see her work at Cibola Arts Gallery,  217 Broadway, Mountainair.

Ann is just one of the talented artists at Cibola, a cooperative art gallery.

Cibola Arts Gallery is Mountainair’s nine year old co-operative gallery, but there is always something new to discover.  Barbara Montgomery, the newest member, brings Christmas to the gallery year round.  You will find Santa decorations in many delightful styles and beautifully painted gourd ornaments to add to your collection.

Mary Schultz, a founding member, is just back from Bali with fabulous new beads.  She is creating new necklaces, pins and earrings from the sterling silver  beads for which Bali is so famous. She also brought back delicately carved fossilized walrus ivory and moose antler beads.  Amazing wearable art.

There will be a group show opening Saturday August 7.  There is guaranteed to be new work that you will want to see.
