Socorro, Jan 9, 2006 - As part of an ongoing effort to make Steppin' Out the definitive source for Arts, Entertainment and Tourism news in New Mexico, SONewMex.com has launched a new "Top Stories" section on its front page and has started offering syndicated News and Content to New Mexico web sites and Internet users in RSS and XML formats through the Steppin' Out News Service.

The new "Top Stories" section features the eight most recent news stories posted in Steppin' Out's forums. In addition to the new section, all news articles posted in the last 75 days are also featured in newest-to-oldest order at the top of the site's News Page (http://steppinoutnewmexico.com/modules.php?name=News). Steppin Out's statewide news can also be accessed, used and republished by end-users or other web sites through a "Syndicated Content" block that has been added to their web site's home page.

"As with our popular Content Section, each Top Story can feature a photo or graphic related to it. If multiple images are attached to a news article, the image displayed on the front page is the first one attached to the post in the forums", explained Greg Platt Steppin' Out's webmaster. "Naturally, all news articles and images must be reviewed and approved by our editors before they're displayed in our Top Stories section," he said.

As part of the Top Stories project, publisher Gwen Roath decided to syndicate both Steppin' Out's Content and their Top Stories and make them available for other New Mexico web sites and newspapers to republish. "Our site uses the popular Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication news sharing format known as RSS," Roath stated. "That makes it easy for other arts, entertainment and tourism related web sites, papers and newletters throughout the state to feature our headlines or reprint our stories."

"We believe visitors, webmasters and news contributors are all going to like the new service", Platt added. "It lets us collect and feature front page news drawn directly from our news forums and share those stories with users and other web sites statewide instantly. Now that news posts can be featured on our front page and on other sites around the state as well, we expect Arts, Entertainment and Tourism organizations throughout New Mexico will be eager to post news about their events in our forums. Once the new syndicate takes hold, other sites will be able to feature Steppin' Out news on their pages seconds after it is published on our site."
