NM State Parks Calls for Sculpture Submissions<br>for Vietnam Veterans Memorial Chapel<br><br> ANGEL FIRE, NM - On February 5, 2007 the New Mexico State Parks Department and a distinguished Selection Committee, which includes the NM Department of Cultural Affairs, announced that they are seeking commissioned artwork to be used as the focal point in the Peace and Brotherhood Chapel at Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park located in Angel Fire, New Mexico. <br><br><img src=http://steppinoutnewmexico.com/images/angelfirepark.jpg border=0 align=left hspace=5 vspace=5>The chapel is the centerpiece of the Memorial, and the proposed sculpture and meditation pedestal will be placed at the most prominent location within the chapel. Therefore, the artwork should embody the concepts of honor, tranquility, healing, peace and brotherhood. <br><br> “We invite prospective artists to familiarize themselves with the history of the Memorial and personally visit the park in order to derive a sense of its purpose,” said State Parks Director, Dave Simon. <br><br> State Parks has allocated up to $50,000 for the project to cover expenses associated with materials, prospective equipment costs, fees, labor, insurance, taxes, travel, installation costs, project plaque, and documentation of the artwork.<img src=http://steppinoutnewmexico.com/images/angelfire3.jpg align=right border=0 hspace=5 vspace=5><br><br> The selection criteria will include, but is not limited to:<br><br>• The artist’s professional qualifications<br>• Proven ability to undertake projects of the desired scope<br>• Artistic merit as evidenced by the slides and other supporting materials<br>• Appropriateness of submission to project intent and scope<br>For a complete list of criteria, log onto www.nmparks.com (http://www.nmparks.com/).<br><br>The selected artist will be required to enter into a professional services contract with the State of New Mexico. Artists are encouraged to visit the Memorial in person prior to writing a proposal. Additionally, the finalist(s) will be required to make one site visit, including presenting the proposal to State Parks and the Selection Committee.
