"The Highest Step In The World" previews at IMAX theater
"The Highest Step In The World", winner of the White Sands Film Festival Best of Festival Award and Judges' Choice Award for Best Documentary, will have a special showing at the Clyde W. Tombaugh IMAX Dome Theater on Friday, February 23, at 10:00 am.
The event is open and free to the public, although seating is limited to 87.
Special guests for the morning include film producers Michael Lennick and Shirley Gulliford. A question and answer session will follow the movie with light refreshments.
"The Highest Step In The World" tells the story of the post-war U.S. Air Force pre-astronauts, who risked their lives to be the first men into space years before NASA existed. Foolish Earthling Productions spent a great deal of time shooting around Holloman, White Sands and other critical New Mexico locations.
The film grew out of writer/director Michael Lennick's lifelong fascination with the pre-NASA missions flown out of Holloman AFB when he was growing up. When Michael and his partner and co-producer Shirley Gulliford established their small production company back in the early 90s, "The Highest Step in The World" was the first film they wanted to do. It only took ten years - not bad for the independent documentary trade.
The film has aired as the pilot episode of their Discovery Channel 'history of spaceflight' series "Rocket Science", and has led to a sequel now in the development stages.
The New Mexico Museum of Space History is a division of the NM Department of Cultural Affairs. For more information, call 505-437-2840 or toll free 1-877-333-6589 or visit the website at www.nmspacemuseum.org (http://www.nmspacemuseum.org).
