T or C Promoter to Host HuDost Concert March 18
By Steppin’ Out’s T or C Reporter

Truth or Consequences, NM – T or C publicist, promoter, music lover and Gen-X entrepreneur Wendy Tremayne announced recently that a popular touring band named HuDost from New Lebanon, NY will perform a public concert in T or C on Sunday, March 18 at 3:00 p.m. If the weather co-operates, the concert will be held at the outdoor theater at Firebox Studio and Hot Springs Lodge at 400 Mims in Truth or Consequences. If not, an alternate indoor venue has been arranged and signs will be posted at Firebox Studio redirecting concert goers to the alternate location.

The program will feature traditional songs of the Turkish Rifai Marufi lineage and Rumis poetry sung in Persian, as well as the band's original Alternative World Rock Country and Eastern Fusion material. HuDost will play songs from their critically acclaimed debut CD "In an Eastern Rose Garden" and material from their brand latest release "Seedling". The band will be joined by Megan Martyn of Ramla Taal (tribal belly dance).

The group’s most recent album "Seedling" was released in October 2006. The new album is comprised both of songs written by the core duo and of Bulgarian/Arabic music fusion. HuDost is currently touring the US promoting the album. The Truth or Consequences concert was planned and will be hosted by Wendy Tremayne of Green Acre, a performance venue and eco-hotel set to open in the Fall of 2007 (http://gaiatreehouse.com (http://gaiatreehouse.com/)).

One reviewer recently described HuDost’s music this way: These beautiful atmospheric, warm and resonant songs weave the evocative with stylistic colors of folk, new age and pop presented with the colorful harmonic vocabulary of the East, this gentle album delicately pairs the two art forms with great success. - CDBaby

As this concert suggests, entrepreneurs Wendy Tremayne and Mikey Sklar of Truth or Consequences are definitely not your average twenty-something “inside the box” thinkers. Though still in her 20's, the HuDost concert’s enthusiastic promoter and host, Wendy Tremayne already has a long list of art, media and creative projects in her resume. Several of her New York creative projects were widely reported by both the U.S. and European news media. Among other things, Tremayne once co-founded and performed in a popular all-female band that toured New England for several years. She also created and ran a successful record production company. Her business partner, Mikey Sklar is a well-known computer scientist whose facinating computer and electronic projects have also drawn extensive media attention.

A few months after moving to T or C from New York in 2006, the pair bought a property containing an Artesian hot-spring, trailer and RV park and embarked on an ambitious project to redesign and rebuild it into an eco-friendly off-grid “green” bed and breakfast they describe as an “Eco-Lodge”. The new Green Acre Eco-Lodge will use old steel cargo containers -- insulated with a combination of a high-tech insulating film called Nano-Insulate and thick slabs of a paper-machete-like blend of old newspaper and concrete commonly known as “papercrete” – as their offices, storage buildings and guest rooms.

<img src=http://steppinoutnewmexico.com/images/ecolodge01.gif border=0 hspace=5 vspace=3 align=left>“We named the project 'Khankah' (an Arabic word describing a place where home, spirit and community come together in a harmonious whole) and we're currently calling the lodge 'Green Acre',” Tremayne explains, “Our goal is to prove that through creative reuse and recycling of existing material we can transform cargo containers into comfortable living quarters for our guests. We’re convinced we can create an eco-friendly off-grid hotel that uses very little external power, is cool in summer and warm in winter and built almost entirely from existing reusable or recyclable materials.” Pictured to the left is an architectural drawing of the planned Green Acre Lodge once the construction is complete in September 2007.

To assist them in achieving their goals Tremayne and Sklar agreed to work with New Mexico native builder Jesse Servis as their project consultant and advisor. Tremayne proudly describes Servis as a recycler, a master of reuse, a 'crazy genius', and a dear friend. "Mikey and I are providing the labor, Jesse provides the knowledge, experience and direction," she concludes.

Whether all their aspirations ultimately prove attainable, only time will tell. However, the couple did recently complete the renovation of a dilapidated mobile home that was on the site when they bought it. They also successfully converted one of the steel containers they bought to use as Mikey’s office. So, by the time Green Acre opens this fall, they'll have tested their design and insulation concepts through the winter, spring and summer seasons and should have a good idea of what they can expect in the future.
